My Writing

In addition to writing music, I’ve also explored mediums such as sketch comedy and even playwriting. In the spring of 2019, I participated in the Hartford Stage’s “Write On” program, which gave six Connecticut high school students the chance to write an original short play with the guidance of New Haven playwright and musician Aaron Jafferis. The program spanned six weeks and culminated in a staged reading. I wrote a play called “Escape Room,” in which five dead authors— Ernest Hemingway, Charles Dickens, Lorraine Hansberry, Sappho, and Aesop— are stuck in a 21st century escape room and have to work together to get out.

Samples of my writing—comedic sketches, plays, or otherwise— are available upon request.

Sketch Comedy at Vassar

I auditioned for Happily Ever Laughter (HEL) in my first week at Vassar College. In this group, I have made some of my closest friends and participated in my proudest group performances to date. My favorite sketches that I’ve written are “My World,” about a teenage pop star whose career could be in trouble because of his flat earther beliefs, and “Jamba Juice,” a parody of the Travis Scott and J. Balvin McDonald’s meal orders. I have also portrayed Sir Paul McCartney in a Charmin commercial, a Victorian orphan headmaster in a sketch I wrote called “The Victorian Orphan Pageant,” and as a crab being held hostage in Red Lobster.

Below are two videos of HEL’s shows. The first is “HEL Bones” from October 2019. Three of my sketches— “My World,” “The Last Straight Person at Vassar,” and “Salem Witch Trials”— were featured. The second show is from October 2020, “Where The Fish Are.” Due to the pandemic, we could not have our typical show in a lecture hall built to seat a hundred people or so. This show, although considerably shorter than previous ones, consisted entirely of video sketches. Because I was off-campus, I submitted five solo sketches: “Amy Klobuchar 2024 Ad,” “Jamba Juice,” “A Word from Björk,” “John Green Tries To Find Alaska on A Map,” and “My Wife!” Note: Anybody who appears within six feet of each other in this show is in a pod— they are housemates or roommates.
